New Year, New Dog!
If you are looking for a sign to start training your new dog or puppy; or to continue training your current four legged friend, this is it! There is no time like the present to begin making the changes that you want to see in your dog. Maybe it’s just working on leash skills, or maybe you want to dedicate time to truly helping your dog become the best version of themselves. Hint, hint, they cannot do it without you!
Where to Start?
Simply start by making a list of the things you want to change or improve upon. The best thing you can do for your dog is to teach them how you want them to live within your house and your life. Let’s forget the obedience piece for a minute and break that down. What I mean is simple; what is your dog allowed or not allowed to do in your house or with you? Are they allowed to bark out the window at people walking by? Do they jump on the counter or guests coming into the house? Do the zoomies across the couch? Working on these very basic life skills will give you a totally different dog.
Consistency is Key!
Set your dog up to succeed! Make sure that you are clear and consistent across the board. Dogs do not speak english so I cannot stress enough how important it is to be consistent. You cannot expect your dog to just know what you want them to do, you must work to TEACH what you want from them. It takes time but they will get it *if* you are consistent. Rules are rules and they must be followed on Monday, Thursday, when it’s sunny and even when it’s snowing. My point is that everyday must be a day where they are able to clearly understand what is expected of them.
Start small, but start somewhere! We are here for you along the way.
