  • Homeschooling, spouses are home all the time, work from home, grocery store runs, entertainment for your children, meals PLUS a dog (or puppy). Do you feel like you’re losing your mind? Below you will find a list of very easy (because life does not need to be any more complicated than it already is) tips and tricks to help you keep your dog occupied and out of trouble.

Food puzzles are a great way to keep your dog out of mentally stimulated and occupied for an extended period of time. You can even use their meals to fill the puzzle or toy. Now, I know what you may be thinking; maybe you weren’t preparing to be quarantined at home and therefore do not have puzzles or food toys readily on hand, not to worry! Many household items can be used to make a great DIY puzzle for your dog.

Cupcake tins make for a great slow feeder, just flip them upside down and add kibble/treats!

Empty shoe box and toilet paper rolls (we know you have em’ stocked up!). Fill shoebox with toilet paper rolls and drop kibble/treats inside of toilet paper rolls.

Empty water bottle filled with kibble/treats. NO CAP! Scrunch the bottle for an added challenge

Rubber kitchen sink mat and some fleece, also makes a great craft for kids!

Feed each fleece end through a hole on the mat, flip mat over and knot. Repeat until the mat is covered in fleece. Then sprinkle kibble/treats inside the mat and let your dog sniff them out!

Aside from puzzle time, you can also add short training sessions into the time you already spend with your pup! Next time you are outside throwing the ball, throw in some commands before throwing it or practice your recalls. Even just adding commands into the walk you are already taking with them makes a world of difference.

Remember, training never stops! Do it for your dog, you’ve got this.
