  • With spring just around the corner; if this snow ever stops, I mean come on, snow in April!? Spring brings lots of beauty, but it also brings some very harmful plants for your dogs. We have put together a list of some harmful plants so you know what to watch out for and what to keep out of your garden at home!

Autumn Crocus: If eaten, they can cause an intense burning sensation in the mouth along with vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, liver and kidney damage. The most toxic part of this plant is the bulb.

Azalea: Just a few of these can cause extreme oral irritation as well as vomiting and diarrhea. In more severe cases when several are eaten, you can see a drop in blood pressure and even coma or death.

Daffodil: This is another plant where although the whole thing is toxic, the bulb contains the highest level of toxicity. Consumption of this plant can cause vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, convulsions and a drop in blood pressure.

Tulip: Once again, the bulb of this plant has the highest level of toxicity! Ingestion of these can cause some oral irritation, nausea or vomiting and some excessive salivating.

Oleander Trees: The cardiac glycosides from this plant is very toxic to dogs and can cause fatal heart abnormalities, lack of coordination, muscles tremors, vomiting and diarrhea that contains blood.

Cyclamen: This common household flower can cause oral irritation, vomiting, diarrhea, heart abnormalities, and even seizures or death in some cases if ingested.

Amaryllis: This popular Easter plant has toxins that can cause vomiting, depression, diarrhea, abdominal pain, lack of appetite and tremors when consumed.

If your dog ingests any of these plants, you should contact your veterinarian or closest 24-7 emergency clinic immediately!
